If all houses had the same width entryways, everyone could use the same child safety gate and never give it a second thought. The reality, of course, is that, like babies, every house and every doorway is different. But baby still wants to explore, and some areas of the house are just not an option. The Evenflo Soft and Wide Gate is an excellent choice for light traffic areas with wide entries. Expanding from 38 inches to 60 inches, this nylon mesh gate feels soft but provides solid protection. The pressure-mounted rubber bumpers adjust individually, so it’s possible to, say, have the lower tension bars attached to trim while the upper part is mounted to the wall. Many older houses have uneven settlement, creating varying doorway widths--not a problem for this gate. With a few twists of the rail, the gate can be custom-fit to any opening. …and uninstall! This means that you can take the gate down quickly and easily when baby’s gone to bed. Clear markings on the knobs ("ADJUST," "IN," "OUT") indicate how to expand or contract the tubes. The pressure mounting means that there will be minimal (if any) damage to doorways. The metal frame and nylon meshing are sturdy yet lightweight, making it a natural for travel purposes, as well as storage. Step Right Over
Note that there is no door in this gate, but most adults will be able to step over the 27-inch-tall gate with relative ease. The gate is designed for light-use areas, and definitely not for tops of stairs. Even Baby Likes This Gate!
Baby can see through the mesh material, but won’t be able to find a hand- (or toe-) hold to climb over. The padded top rail provides extra softness for tots who insist on pulling themselves to a standing position—as well as for moms and dads who will be climbing over the gate themselves throughout the day…no barked shins! Remember to wipe down the rubber bumpers with rubbing alcohol before each use. Make sure all four end caps fit securely against wall or doorway opening. One weak link may be all an intrepid toddler needs to break on through to the other side! Excessive pressure can dislodge the gate. Use only for children ages 6 months through 24 months.
